When you think of vacation destinations, you probably think of places like Aspen, Colorado or Key West, Florida. However, vacationing means a lot of things to different people. All you really need is a comfortable home surrounded by your favorite things to do (or not do), that just so happens to fit into your budget. The Realtor.com data team set out to list the top 10 places in the country to find affordable vacation homes that are off the beaten path. Is one of these towns near Charlotte? Read on to find out!

To be considered a vacation destination, the town itself needs to have at least 20% of their home purchases so far this year made as second homes. Additionally, the team decided to only include one metro area per state in order to spread the geographic diversity.

The Results

While Branson, Missouri claimed the top spot, there are two towns in the Carolinas that made the list. Taking the number four spot was beachside city Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The median vacation home price in Myrtle rings in at $341,000 which is lower than the national median list price for all homes. There’s no wonder Myrtle Beach was recently ranked No. 1 on U.S. News and World Report’s Fastest Growing Places in the United States List.

The other Carolina town to make the list took the number five spot. Cullowhee, North Carolina, at the base of the Appalachian Mountains and has a median vacation home price of $365,750. This bustling college town home to Western Carolina University is home to Lake Glenville and is situated right along the idyllic Blue Ridge Parkway.

Of course, if you don’t want to go through the hassle of buying your own vacation rental, you take advantage of one of the dozens of lovely vacation homes we have right here in Charlotte!
