One of the best-known phrases in real estate is: “Location, location, location!” It’s true. You may find your ultimate dream house but one thing you really can’t control is where it’s at. Moving a house in no small feat, and is honestly just really rare. The best case scenario is to hope for your dream home in your dream neighborhood near your dream job and close to dream schools for your kids. Here’s one more thing to consider when factoring in location… the *type* of street on which you live.

Southern Living, the ultimate authority on all things to do with life below the Mason-Dixon, recently shared an opinion piece that life on a cul-de-sac (a closed residential street where the dead-end is rounded into a circle) is one of the best ways to create a memorable childhood. And really, could they be more right? When thinking of cul-de-sacs, we’re instantly transported to manicured lawns, friendly neighborhood cookouts, and the ultimate in kid dreams.

Such As…

Riding your bikes in relative safety. Sidewalk chalk designs as far as the eye can see. Kids darting back and forth between houses, their little legs zig-zagging from yard to yard as they enjoy trampoline play dates, running through sprinklers, and playing pick-up wiffle ball games in the cul-de-sac.

Granted, these types of close-knit communities can exist in absolutely any neighborhood, regardless of the set-up of the street itself. There’s just something about a cul-de-sac that hits a bit differently. After all, writer Patricia Shannon shares that, “I love that they’re getting a little slice of old-fashioned childhood, even if it only happens when they’re home on this itty-bitty corner.”

Isn’t that the dream?

When looking for your dream home, consider whether “Life on a Cul-de-Sac” should be high on your priority list. You’ll be playing kickball before you know it!
